This week, we are focusing our efforts to draw attention to the issue of speeding, which, in addition to the extreme volume of trucks, contributes to an already dangerous and unbearable situation.
People are so accustomed to there being no police presence that they don’t even slow down for the radar sign. We recorded a vehicle traveling at 130 km/h!
We have filmed the traffic heading towards Groupe Bauval, Bricon, Roxboro, and CRH Demix over the past few days, and the results are astounding.
Watch the video:
The number of vehicles exceeding the speed limit daily on Chemin de la Butte-aux-Renards is alarming. For many years, residents of Chemin de la Butte-aux-Renards have been pleading for help due to the extreme volume of trucks and its numerous negative effects on their lives. Road maintenance has been severely neglected for years, resulting in numerous potholes, cracks, and uneven surfaces. When heavy trucks weighing between 30 and 50 tons speed past residential homes, the noise and vibrations generated by the dilapidated road become unbearable, even inhumane.
Martin Damphousse, the mayor of Varennes, has said that “there is no easy solution” and has not taken any concrete steps to address the issue.
- The city of Varennes refuses to build a bypass road via Montée de la Baronnie (which would solve all problems).
- The police claim they are doing their best, but their resources are limited (although data shows they are primarily allocated elsewhere).
- CRH Demix claims they have no trucking fleet, so they are not responsible, despite their company generating the majority of truck traffic.
Ultimately, the residents of Chemin de la Butte-aux-Renards are fending for themselves against hundreds of vehicles of all types, with little to no police presence.
